They stood there for a while, the two of them, in the house that had always been hers, watching the valley do what the valley had always done — hold the light a little longer than it had any right to, turning copper and violet in horizontal bands along the horizon, and then, slowly, letting the dark come in.
The house was quiet.
But it wasn’t the guilty kind.
